Westwood is a wonderful community just west of Beverly Hills & is home to the world famous campus of UCLA. Although there is a large student population around UCLA, Westwood is also an area that boasts fabulous & prestigious properties. It convenient location allows easy access to the city as well as the major freeways of Los Angeles.

Westwood started out as only 3,000 acres of farmable land. In 1922, the Janss company bought the land and developed it for the 1927 move of UCLA, which was originally located in Hollywood where the Los Angles City College is today. The land was bought for only $1 million, which was a third of its worth, which led to the naming of the Janss steps.

Around the 1950’s, high-rise offices began springing up along Wilshire Boulevard. These office buildings were in anticipation for the Beverly Hills freeway (which was never built). During the 1960’s until the 1980’s, Westwood Village was extremely popular.

Being known mostly for the UCLA campus, Westwood houses many of its students and families. When first moving to the Westwood area, UCLA only consisted of four buildings, following the Romanesque Revival style. For the next two decades, the campus went under intense construction and now consists of 163 buildings and spreads across 419 acres of land. Today, the campus is known for its lavish gardens, green lawns and beautiful architecture.
